News | Lightyear

★★★★ This movie is supposed to be the one that transforms Andy, the boy and then teenager from Toy Story, into a fan of Buzz Lightyear. I mean, this is a Pixar movie that is seen within the Pixar universe. Which allows him to be free in more ways than one: to become both a tribute and a parody of science fiction and its crudest and most repeated tropes (and clichés), to laugh at the character himself and produce a dizzying adventure without being too tied to a scheme pre-existing although, of course, everything is about pre-existing schemes. The story of the adventures of this space hero whose voice (another parodic feature) puts this time Chris “Captain America” Evans (and Evans is a very accomplished comedian, whoever has seen Scott Pilgrim or the first two Fantastic 4 knows) works very well. well if we take it seriously and much better if not, although there are moments of tension and adventures in which it is impossible not to be on the edge of the seat. It’s true: the balance towards humor is provided by the Sox robot/cat and in general the salad works. What is it that makes this not a “great movie” but just a very good movie? Precisely, the wink, the slightly sidelong look that barely overlaps with that idea that “we are Andy watching the movie that captivated him as a child”, a strange degree of immersion that requires being part of a kind of “cultural team” . That is to say, beyond his visual excellence, there is something ghetto in the idea itself, something that requires a bit of perspective to be perceived. Yeah, well, you’re going to have as good a time as you expect. Yes, no more than that.
