Sentence expired Gustavo Prellezothe former commissioner of the Buenos Aires Police sentenced to life imprisonment for having executed Joseph Louis Heads by order of businessman Alfredo Yabrán. The premiere of the Netflix documentary “The photographer and the postman” coincided with movements in the legal field and, these days, all the perpetrators of the crime can now move freely without any judicial obstacle.
On December 21, 2021, the Justice granted a request made by Prellezo and ruled: “It is declared that the sentence of life imprisonment imposed in case No. 11,085, dated February 2, 2000, expires on the day of the date because the term of 5 years has elapsed since the parole was granted and made effective without it having been revoked.”
The disposition was made by Chamber I of the Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees in Criminal Matters of the Dolores Judicial Department and, for the rest of the “Los Horneros” gang, the same fate met.
I am a lawyer
The resolution has a direct impact on the lives of those sentenced, and for Prellezo In particular, it means adding an argument in your favor to practice as a lawyer without inconveniences. The former commissioner lives in the Los Hornos neighborhood of La Plata with his wife and his daughter. Despite being extremely cautious with the press, on May 23 he was photographed at the gate of his house, in front of which there are posters promoting his services as a lawyer.
Prellezo studied Law at the National University of La Plata while he was serving his sentence and since 2017 he began a fight to enroll. He first did so at the Quilmes Bar Association, but a few days later his authorization was revoked for having a conviction for homicide and for having presented false documentation.
In 2018 he tried again at the Public Bar Association of the Federal Capital. In the process, she omitted that she was still serving a sentence for a crime and presented a false affidavit.
With the extinction of the sentence, his situation is different. In the registry of lawyers of CABA he now appears as registered, while, in the province of Buenos Aires, with registration in Quilmes; he is still listed as “not authorized”, a situation that he will surely decide to question.
