News | Family fight: Frondizi pulled

Next April 18 marks the 28th anniversary of the death of the former president Arturo Frondizi, whose remains rest in the Olivos cemetery. In recent months, a controversy broke out because the former president’s grandchildren decided to move the remains of their grandfather to Concepción del Uruguay, where a crypt was built in the city’s basilica. There is also the former president of the Argentine Confederation, Justo José de Urquiza.

Last September that dispute over the remains of Frondizi was addressed by this magazine and, far from concluding, the conflict grew. On one side are the grandchildren Diego and Marina Seghetti Frondiziwho have the legitimate right to move the remains of their grandfather, and on the other, the property of the vault that belongs to the faggionato family, the ancestors of Frondizi’s wife. The grandchildren want to move the body and the Faggionatos, along with other Frondizi, are against it.

To these actors is added the municipality of Vicente Lopez, which is interested in keeping the former president in its cemetery, but there is also the municipality of Concepción del Uruguay, which has already signed an agreement to receive Frondizi’s remains. The Church joins, because the crypt was built in the city’s basilica, and also the historian Eduardo Lazzari, who is coordinating the transfer of the body and whom the relatives who oppose moving the former president accuse of wanting to profit by setting up a Cultural tourist tour of Concepción del Uruguay with the history of two former presidents who passed through there: Urquiza and Frondizi. Lazzari, consulted on this matter, denied having these intentions and maintained that he participates in this process because his friend, Frondizi’s grandson, asked him to.

Lazzari went to speak with Elena Faggionato, one of Frondizi’s nieces, to convince her to move the body, but the framework of the talk did not seem appropriate: he went to see her at a sanatorium in the northern part of the Buenos Aires suburbs after surgery. She felt it like a pressure. Before this means, Lazzari affirmed that it was at her invitation. Faggionato told his relatives that, after Lazzari’s visit, he was very ill and his blood pressure rose.

At the same time, on April 4, at the Ostend police station, in Pinamar, Mercedes Faggionato, another niece of Frondizi and manager of the summer house on the beach of that city, appeared to present a testimonial statement and leave record that she had been visited by the president of the Arturo Frondizi Foundation, Hugo Carassai. In her account, she tells that Carassai had gone to make her sign a consent to remove the body from her family vault and that she refused. At that point, Carassai would have raised his voice to her in anger. Consulted by NOTICIAS, the president of the Frondizi foundation denied the accusation, He said he was unaware of the judicial presentation and even described that he was there for five minutes and left. No yelling or hiccups. The case remains unresolved and everything indicates that the next step is to settle it in Justice.
