How productive is a person productive?
I start this note by saying that the human body has regulatory systems and adaptation to external pressures, which of course, like any system, sometimes collapses. But the pressures are always external and we must respond to them at any cost? Of course not. There are also the most damaging Internal pressures. According to the Mechanics of Continuous Media, Stress is “the physical magnitude that expresses the internal forces that neighboring particles of a continuous material exert on each other” This already gives us a metaphorical idea of the cause of increased Cortisol in the body human.
When the organism is faced with continuous pressures that it must resolve, and these put it in a situation of struggle, the body manages to face it, although at a very high cost.
Cortisol is a hormone secreted by a gland called the adrenal gland in the face of stress stimuli, which would simply be supporting and wanting more than we can. The body prepares for an attack and therefore reacts. The consequence of a sustained increase in Cortisol is the increase in blood sugars produced by the liver, and a resistance to insulin produced by the pancreas. That is, cortisol opposes the action of insulin. Therefore it promotes diabetes. It also cooperates for lipolysis (thinness due to stress), and protein consumption in the muscle. It also interferes with the formation of bone tissue (central structure of the human body). , that is, it promotes osteoporosis. Cortisol can generate behavioral changes and alter the functioning of multiple body systems, including changes in the structure of different tissues, promoting heart attacks due to the difficulty in bringing oxygen to them. Lastly and finally it attacks our immune system which is the jewel of our body. Why do I say the jewel? Because only when everything else works well, the human body can protect the latter. The best reserves go there.
In relation to cognitive abilities, it is true that attention improves with high Cortisol, but for how long? Very short. And at what cost? Very high. Fair working hours, good rest, a good diet (varied, low in sugar), physical exercise, and therapy as a means of self-knowledge reduce Cortisol levels and are the key to proper overall health.
The desire for fertility and the physiological mechanism that must be produced for it are also inhibited by Cortisol, therefore it leads us not only to a destruction of the human body, but also puts reproductive capacity at risk and therefore, the survival of the species.
