News | Brute force

★★★★ Although it’s a sequel (The Outlaws didn’t premiere here), it doesn’t matter: a very likeable and rather brutal detective has to extradite a criminal from Vietnam to South Korea and discovers ties to a series of tourist murders. Using unconventional methods, the man and his crew try to solve the case. But what is interesting is not so much the plot (which it is, mind you), but the balance between action, a complex and interesting police case and a humor that at times recalls the best of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. Korean cinema has a characteristic: it is unprejudiced and takes what it needs to narrate each scene in the most effective way possible. That is why the story, however complex it may be, is understandable and what matters most to us is what happens to the characters. You have to see more Korean cinema, without the slightest doubt.
