News | alice and the mayor

★★★★ I know, positively, that you are going to say that this is a very French cliche: the old, experienced man, tired of his bourgeois well-being, getting involved with a fresh and intelligent young woman. Yeah, well, ok, bingo, they’re right. But there are two things here that are worthwhile. The first, as always, is Lucchini, one of those actors who puts a punch on even the worst thing, and this isn’t “the worst thing”. The second, to analyze the relationship not only between people of different generations, but also that of politics with everyday life. In the conversations between that mayor who wants to be president and that philosophy graduate who seeks to help him get out of the stagnation in which the man finds himself, there is no romanticism, the common place of “amour” is broken and there are conversations about what to do and how. The film is not lacking in intelligence in having these themes from the outline of an almost choral story around power and its exercise, and allows us to think about other things.
