Newport rescuers exchange wooden cabin for sea container

The beach lifeguards in Nieuwpoort have a – until now – wooden cabin as accommodation per beach post. But one of them, at the main post in Veurnestraat, has now been replaced by a sea container. The door panels are also a better protection against burglars after closing time.

“We strive for a continuous professionalization of the beach rescue service,” they say to the city. “A high-performance rescue corps cannot do without solid equipment. That is why we have opted for this fully equipped sea container as a new home for our beach rescuers. This offers more storage space, better viewing options and more comfort. No unnecessary luxury on days with less good weather. After the summer, the operation of the sea container will be evaluated and possibly expanded to all five rescue stations in the future.”

The container is painted in red and yellow, the colors of the rescuers and that also ensures clarity.

There are other novelties: each post also has a rescue board, with which rescuers can better navigate the surf during an intervention.
