After reports of change
On Monday evening wrote Fabrizio Romano the famous words: “Here we go.” What was meant was the Brazilian striker João Pedro (20) from Watford FC, for whom Newcastle United have been campaigning for days. After the “Magpies” failed with an initial offer, around 30 million euros with bonuses of up to 6 million should be the deciding factor, Pedro will sign shortly until 2028. According to a report in the newspaper, “TheTelegraph“ from: Watford also turned down this offer.

The reason for this is that the “Hornets” are not realistic enough about the modalities for paying out the bonuses. This will probably be particularly effective if Newcastle regularly qualifies for the Champions League over the contract period. After being taken over by a Saudi consortium, that’s clearly the goal in the north-east of England, but given the fierce competition in the Premier League, that’s becoming more than difficult.
€11m-€42m: All Newcastle transfers since Saudi takeover
According to the Telegraph, as the transfer deadline approaches, prices for financially strong Newcastle are more likely to rise than fall. Watford wants to benefit from this – “more money immediately and more realistic bonuses,” it says. Even with Ismaïla Sarr (24), the “Hornets” had recently remained firm, also demanding around 30 million euros from Aston Villa. The first division team recently withdrew the offer, the Senegalese is now staying with the relegated team. Both Sarr and Pedro would rank themselves as the second-most expensive Watford exit in history after Richarlison (25) for that sum.
For Newcastle, who started well with five points from three games, it is the second difficult negotiation for a striker this summer. The transfer of Hugo Ekitiké (20) to Tyne was also considered safe at times, but there was an agreement with the player – but the Frenchman withdrew it and ultimately switched from Stade de Reims to Paris on loan with a purchase option of EUR 36 million including bonuses Saint Germain. So far, the “Magpies” have invested 66 million euros in defensive players Sven Botman (22) and Matt Targett (26) and goalkeeper Nick Pope (30).
