Newcastle United extends ex-Hoffenheimer Schär: “Is the ultimate professional”

One of 3 Swiss in the PL

Ex-Bundesliga professional Fabian Schär will stay with Newcastle United beyond the summer. As the “Magpies” announced on Friday morning, the Premier League club extended the 30-year-old central defender, whose contract originally expired at the end of the season, for two more years. Between 2015 and 2017, the 69-time Swiss international played for TSG Hoffenheim.

“I’m absolutely thrilled. It’s what I’ve always wanted – to stay here and play for this incredible club. Since my first day in Newcastle, I’ve felt very comfortable here, it’s like a second home and I’m happy that I can stay here for a few more years,” said Schär, who moved to Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna in 2018 for €4 million had changed. Since then he has appeared in 98 games.
