Let Pope compete
Newcastle United have recalled goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka early from his loan to Manchester United. As the “Magpies” announced, the 33-year-old should from now on compete with Nick Pope, who kept his ninth clean sheet of the season in the 0-0 draw against Leeds on Saturday and thus extended his lead in the ranking of the white vests.
In addition to Pope and Dúbravka, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie are also part of the keeper team, and Loris Karius had signed a contract until the end of December with the option of extending it until the end of the season. A decision on this person has not yet been announced.
Dúbravka, who still has a working paper in Newcastle until 2025, switched to the “Red Devils” on loan in the summer and made two appearances under Erik ten Hag. Man United, who now retain David de Gea and Tom Heaton as goalkeeping duo, also had a purchase option reportedly at €5m. The “Magpies” have played 130 games so far.
