Joshua Kimmich’s future is unclear. His contract in Munich is expiring – and the first top clubs are keeping an eye on the Bayern veteran.
Will Joshua Kimmich leave FC Bayern soon? The international player’s contract in Munich expires in the summer of 2025. There have not yet been any concrete discussions about an extension. The poker for Kimmich has begun.
According to a report by the French “L’Equipe”, Paris Saint-Germain had expressed interest in the 28-year-old and was aiming for a swap deal between Kimmich and full-back Nordi Mukiele. Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund reacted with amusement to the wild transfer rumor. When asked about it, he explained on Welt TV: “I can only smile about it. Totally far-fetched.”
Kimmich: “I don’t know how the club thinks”
In the “Bild Sport” program on Sunday, Freund pointed out the importance of Kimmich for the record champions. “Jo Kimmich is a very important player for us, one of our leading players,” said the 46-year-old Austrian. Kimmich himself had previously stated that he would not deal with transfer rumors. “I’m just concentrating on Bayern. For me that wasn’t an issue in the winter,” said the leading player.
Even after the game against Hoffenheim last Friday, Kimmich said with regard to the expiring contract: “At the end of the day, both sides have signed a contract. I don’t know how the club thinks, I think that we will sit down together at some point that the club will approach me.”
In the event of a separation, the poker could become exciting again: In addition to PSG, according to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, Spain’s FC Barcelona and the English first division clubs Manchester City and Newcastle United have also kept an eye on Kimmich.
Matthäus thinks Kimmich’s departure is “a shame”
Record national player Lothar Matthäus spoke in his column on the TV channel Sky about Kimmich’s possible departure: “He is a player who would fit in with his experience and quality in Paris.” And further: “The level of the French league is not comparable to the Bundesliga, but the club is a challenge and the city is wonderful. If Joshua thinks he needs to experience something new again, then FC Bayern certainly won’t give him one Put a spoke in wheel.”
Nevertheless, Matthäus would find it “a shame” if Kimmich were to leave Bayern, but he could understand a departure because “the club’s backing wasn’t always there,” Matthäus continued. “I think it can eat at a player when he constantly hears that the club is looking for a new player in the position he has held as a leader for years.”
Coach Thomas Tuchel and Bayern are currently in a five-day training camp in Portugal. Kimmich is missing from the squad because the birth of his fourth child is imminent.
