After the defeat at West Ham, Newcastle wanted to get back on track in the league against Brentford. But that didn’t work – also because a DFB professional other than Woltemade scored.

Kevin Schade and FC Brentford were able to win the meeting between three German national players: In his team’s 3-1 win against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, the offensive player managed to equalize (56th). Harvey Barnes had previously given the guests the lead (29′). Igor Thiago decided the game with a brace for Brentford – first he scored from a penalty (78′), then from the game in stoppage time (90’+5).

DFB star Nick Woltemade remained pale on Newcastle’s side. He and his national team colleague Malick Thiaw slipped further down the Premier League table with the “Magpies”. Newcastle, who also lost defender Dan Brown due to a yellow-red card (73rd), are now only two points clear of the first relegation zone.

With the win, Brentford moved up to twelfth place in the table (16 points) – level on points with Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton & Hove Albion. Crystal Palace, coached by Oliver Glasner, is one point ahead of the “Seagulls” and the “Bees”. In the direct meeting, the Londoners and Brighton drew 0-0. Crystal Palace would have jumped into a European Cup spot with a win.

Leeds United are still deep in the relegation battle. Despite an early goal from ex-national player Lukas Nmecha (13th), coach Daniel Farke’s team lost 3-1 at Nottingham Forest. Despite the win, the hosts remain second to last in the table.

AFC Bournemouth suffered a setback. In the 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa, the surprise team of the season suffered their second defeat in a row after the 3-1 defeat at Manchester City. Coach Andoni Iraola’s team missed out on a place in the Champions League. Bournemouth and Villa now have 18 points each.
