Cyclist Patrick Bevin has won the seventh and penultimate stage in the Tour of Turkey. The New Zealander from Israel-Premier Tech was the strongest of a leading group of three. At the end of the stage, Bevin broke away from Australian Jay Vine and Frenchman Nicolas Edet. The trio had jumped out of the pack 30 kilometers before the finish.
Thanks to his victory in Tekirdag, Bevin starts Sunday’s final stage as leader in the standings. Vine follows 20 seconds behind. The Argentinian Eduardo Sepúlveda, who had to give up the lead in the general classification to Bevin, is now third on 40 counts.
The Tour of Turkey ends in Istanbul on Sunday.
