New York Times: Salman Rushdie is talking again, according to agent ANP
Author Salman Rushdie spoke again on Saturday, his literary agent told The New York Times. Rushdie, who had to be on a ventilator after long operations on Friday, is still in hospital and may lose an eye. His liver has been damaged and nerves in his arm have been cut, the newspaper said.
Rushdie was stabbed Friday during a lecture in western New York state. The 75-year-old writer sustained ten stab wounds, including in his neck, abdomen and eye. Shortly after the stabbing, a suspect, 24-year-old Hadi Matar, was arrested.
Matar was charged on Saturday with assault and attempted manslaughter. He claims to be innocent. The motive behind the stabbing is not yet clear.
