New York Times: Iran Sends Drone Technicians to Crimea to Help Russians
Iran has sent members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to Crimea to help solve problems facing the drones Moscow allegedly bought from the regime in Tehran. That reports the New York Times Tuesday, based on information from US officials.
According to the newspaper, the technicians work from a Russian military base in Crimea. Many of the drones have been stationed there since they were supplied by Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is Iran’s elite military corps. The United States has labeled the Guard as a terrorist organization.
Iran denies that it supplies Russia with drones, but according to the United States there is plenty of evidence that Russia does use Iranian drones. According to the officials, the mistakes of Russian drone operators have prevented them from working effectively. Originally, Russia was going to send personnel to Iran for training, but as the problems persisted, Iran chose to send the technicians to Crimea.
