NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The US stock exchanges clearly contained their significant losses from early trading on Thursday. In view of economic and inflation fears, however, the price losses for the first half of the year were higher than they had been in decades – for the broader S&P 500 it was the weakest development in the first six months since 1970.
At the end of trading, the leading index Dow Jones Industrial (Dow Jones 30 Industrial) recorded a daily minus of 0.82 percent to 30,775.43 points on Thursday. The S&P 500 pared its loss to 0.88 percent from 3,785.38 points, while the tech-heavy select index NASDAQ 100 ultimately fell 1.33 percent to 11,503.72 points. For the first half of the year, the three stock market barometers fell by 15, 21 and 30 percent./gl/men
