New York police hunt 62-year-old man after subway shooting

New York police have identified a man who may have been involved in a shooting Tuesday at a Brooklyn subway station. At least ten people were shot and a total of 29 people were injured. The police speak of a “person of interest”, who is being investigated whether he was involved in the shooting or may be the shooter.

It concerns Frank James, a 62-year-old man. From recent posts by James on social media, the police believe that he is homeless. Police have previously said they do not suspect terrorist motives for the shooting.

Detectives were able to identify James after finding a credit card at the scene that had previously been used to rent a truck from rental company U-Haul, which police say is “related to” the shooting. The truck was found on a busy Brooklyn road on Tuesday and had been rented in Philadelphia, more than a two-hour drive from Brooklyn. Police found the keys to the truck on the floor in the subway station.

The gunman had engulfed a subway train in smoke on Tuesday after donning a gas mask. He then began shooting the subway, which arrived at the 36th Street station near Sunset Park in the Brooklyn borough. People were also hit on the platform. In total, the shooter would have fired 33 times, according to the police.

Incidentally, earlier Tuesday there was talk of sixteen injured, but that number seems to be higher at 29. No one is in mortal danger.
