Aaron Rodgers is threatened with the end of the season in the NFL. The New York Jets quarterback apparently tore his Achilles tendon in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills (22:16 OT). Head coach Robert Saleh explained this after the end of the game. If the diagnosis is confirmed, his season will already be over.
It was supposed to be a big party – the long-awaited debut of Aaron Rodgers (39) for the New York Jets after his trade from the Green Bay Packers to New Jersey. But it ended after just four plays and a sack by Leonard Floyd. Rodgers remained on the ground afterward and eventually limped off the field. As the game progressed, more and more reports and speculations emerged on the social platform X that Rodgers had torn his Achilles tendon in his left leg.
Head coach Robert Saleh explained at the start of his press conference after the game that he was assuming an Achilles tendon rupture. Although he still hopes for better news as a result of an upcoming MRI, he also said: “It’s not good.”
The Jets ultimately won the game with backup quarterback Zach Wilson. And according to Saleh, Wilson will also be the starter if Rodgers’ serious injury is confirmed.
NFL: Aaron Rodgers has so far been spared from serious injuries
Rodgers had just moved from the Packers to the Jets in a spectacular trade this summer and had big plans. The Jets, who have been waiting for a playoff appearance since 2010, have already spoken openly about a Super Bowl. Without four-time MVP Rodgers, however, these hopes are likely to suffer a severe setback.
Rodgers played a total of 15 years as a starter for the Packers and won Super Bowl XLV with the team after the 2010 season. Rodgers had various injuries throughout his career, but never such a serious injury. Only in 2013 and 2017 had he missed more than one game in a season since his first season as a starter in 2008.
