Drenthe can prepare itself for a very soft, but changeable old and new. “Tomorrow will be rainy,” says RTV Drenthe weatherman Hans Nienhuis about New Year’s Day. “There is a strong to very strong southwest wind, with 14 to 15 degrees. You don’t have to wear a hat.”
New Year’s Eve is likely to start with rain. “And that can take quite a while. With a bit of luck, a dry interlude will follow, which can last until after noon. Then a new clod of rain falls. Most of the rain falls in the northwest of the Netherlands, but we can’t keep it either dry”, expects Nienhuis.
Around midnight, at the start of the new year, the strong wind continues. “Annoying for setting off the fireworks”, the weatherman looks ahead. “If you’re lucky it will be dry, but I don’t dare to bet on that.”
New Year’s morning is on the dry side. “There may be a splash from the sky, but that is nothing compared to New Year’s Day. The wind continues to blow strongly from the southwest corner, and it becomes soft again at about 13 degrees.”
