Route planner with intermediate destination
Route planners with the option of entering an intermediate destination were a topic for many Tesla fans last year. After several inquiries were sent to the US company, Tesla met its customers, as TeslaMag reports. At www.tesla.com/trips, you can enter any destination and see how Tesla would get you there. The “Add stopover” function is also available to Tesla drivers here. The website accepts up to three different intermediate destinations and then shows the optimal route that includes all destinations and links them together.
New feature: Alternative routes
Now Tesla is also offering a new navigation function. “I’m not sure how I missed this for a whole month (I just watched but didn’t see it in action!), but the alternative routes are there now I think? (and not just in China) “, explains the Twitter user @greentheonly in a tweet.

In the attached video you can see that Tesla’s navigation shows two different routes to the destination and also indicates which route is the faster one. As “not a tesla app” explains, this feature was added with version 2022.12. The feature has been around in China for some time, although the release note states that it will only be available in Japan. Oddly enough, however, some users in the US also reported owning the feature. The option to select alternative routes could therefore still be in a kind of test phase, since it only appears in certain scenarios. There is a chance that the feature will be officially released with the upcoming 2022.20 update.
Rerouting to less busy charging stations
Also recently added is the ability to select a charging station that is less busy. With version 2022.16 there is now the possibility that the navigation system will redirect the driver to a new charging station if the previously selected charging station is too busy. The Twitter user @cybrtrkguy posts a picture showing the route planner. “‘Diversion to a less busy supercharger’ I’ve never seen that before. God, I love this car,” he explains.

This new feature could be a huge time-saver for some Tesla drivers, as the navigation system will automatically redirect the driver even before you get to the busy charging station, only to find that you can’t charge there. Tesla also knows not only exactly how many vehicles are being charged at each location, but also what the state of charge of each vehicle is, allowing it to estimate the wait time for a Supercharger station based on how many low-charge Teslas are nearby .
