New Turkish attacks against Kurdish targets in Syria | Abroad

Turkey carried out further attacks against Kurdish targets in northern Syria this evening. “Among other things, weapons and ammunition depots were hit,” Turkish media say.

“Buildings housing sabotage units were destroyed. The same applies to arms and ammunition depots of the PKK and the YPG,” said Turkish state broadcaster TRT. The operation was carried out by units of the MIT, the intelligence service. Ankara considers both PKK and YPG as terrorist groups linked to each other.

Two police officers were injured in a suicide attack on the Turkish Ministry of the Interior on Sunday. Another attacker was killed in a gun battle. The PKK, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Turkey responded with several retaliatory attacks, both in Iraq and Syria.

The US Department of Defense also reports that a Turkish drone was shot down over Syria. It would have posed a threat to American soldiers. The drone was five hundred meters from the soldiers. F-16 pilots then destroyed the drone in defense, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said.
