The estimated $500 million series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power begins September 2nd. While waiting, Amazon Prime is bridging the gap with the release of an impressive new trailer that also offers a first look at the characters from Númenor. The island is probably the focus of the plot and marks the then kingdom of humans in the so-called Second Age of Middle-earth – several thousand years before the events of “The Lord of the Rings”. That epoch saw, among other things, the forging of the One Ring and the first battle of the united peoples against Sauron.
Of dwarves, hobbits and elves
In addition to the human kingdom led by Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), the trailer shows, among other things, the dwarven kingdom of Moria and the elven kingdoms of Lindon and Eregion; and the elven lord Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker). In all likelihood, the elf Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) will play a major role in the eight-part series. The two-and-a-half-minute video also gives insights into the lives of the primeval hobbits and hairy feet. Why in it a man seems to fall from the sky like a comet is probably still in the dark for a few weeks – in JRR Tolkien’s works one searches in vain for such an event.
