New telescope in Ostend can track ISS

Astropolis employees control the new asset with the computer and can also program it. As a result, the dome works quickly and accurately and it is possible to show the public many creations of the universe. The telescope is also able to track an object such as the International Space Station ISS that normally flashes past. Every fourth Friday of the month, visitors have the opportunity to look at the space with it.

Belgian moon rover

Another modern device that the observatory has in its house is a Belgian moon rover. The robot, made in Vilvoorde, will search for raw materials in the bottom of the moon in a few years’ time. He is going on a mission from the European Space Agency (ESA) to investigate whether we can mine minerals and rocks there in the future. The space toy is part of the ‘Race to the Moon’ exhibition and will remain in Ostend until the end of this year.
