De Waddinxvener was mistreated in nightlife violence in Mallorca on July 14, 2021 and later died. Both Mees T. and Sanil B. deny in court that they know who is responsible for Heuvelman’s death.
After the hearing in January, a conversation between Hilversummers Mees T. and Sanil B. was tapped in a detainee van. In that conversation the impression arises that Mees T. and Sanil B. think that co-defendants know more about the death of Carlo Heuvelman. Mees T. in court: “I just don’t know. It drives me a little crazy.” Sanil B.: “If I knew, I would say so, also out of respect for the relatives.” All suspects present deny involvement in Heuvelman’s death.
Sanil B. and the Undercover Agent
During the session, more was told about the conversation that Sanil B. had with an undercover agent at the end of 2021. That conversation was now fleshed out. Among other things, Sanil B. said: “I didn’t do it. I still remember everything. That is not possible. I don’t even remember hitting that boy. I think I punched him. I’m not saying I’m innocent. I hit five people. But not that boy friend.”
In the conversation, Sanil B. admits a few other things, but continues to deny being involved in Heuvelman’s death: “I kicked people, but not that boy, that dead boy. I have nothing to do with it. I don’t know. Or have I completely forgotten about that boy, but I can’t do that, can I? I can’t have completely forgotten, can I?”
‘dirty game’
Sanil’s lawyer called the undercover action “a dirty game” and emphasized that Sanil still denies and has also denied during the conversation with the undercover. A ‘yes’ that would have been said by Sanil would possibly be ‘no’ in Moroccan. And according to Plasman, the answer was hard to hear. Plasman pleaded for suspension of pre-trial detention. Sanil B. has been in jail since August 2021.
Circumstances
The personal circumstances of the suspects present in court were extensively discussed. The judge against Hein B.: “Are you often addressed about it, at school in nightlife?” Hein B.: „Not yet at school. Outside of that, I’ve been approached sometimes, but not really in a very angry way. More for information or interest.”
Mees T. is busy working on himself outside the jail, as it turned out in the courtroom: „I am looking for professional help. I had an intake for that. That’s voluntary. Have trouble sleeping. Nightmares and stuff. Contact with the probation service is going well.”
Some new facts came out about suspect Daan van S.. There are concerns about his personality development. He would be disrespectful and aggressive and have trouble regulating aggression. The psychologist found Daan persistent in his anger at his detention. The court president asked him if he has any new memories about the death of Carlo Heuvelman. Daan: “I couldn’t think of anything new. Didn’t come to any new memories.”
The court called the case “a complicated puzzle.” Sanil B: “If you put a puzzle the other way around and you press hard, it still fits.” With this, the Hilversummer wanted to indicate that the puzzle as it is now being put in court would not be correct.
After the testimonies of the suspects, a heartbreaking appeal from the public prosecutor followed. He indicated that the future plans that the boys have are no longer there for Carlo Heuvelman. “It just can’t be that you don’t know more. Mes: what happened there? Who kicked Carlo?” said the officer. Mees dodged the question. Sanil B. sounded touched after that question.
Hilversummer Sanil B. (20), the main suspect in the investigation into the violent death of Carlo Heuvelman last summer on the Spanish island of Mallorca, will be back in court in Lelystad on Wednesday. During the hearing, lawyer Peter Plasman again raised the issue of B.’s pre-trial detention.
The court also discusses the state of the investigation into the nightlife violence for the other eight suspects. After the previous hearing, the court decided that 36 more witnesses would be heard. This concerns (fellow) suspects, victims, members of the suspects’ group of friends and other (eye)witnesses. The court also requires a so-called counter-examination into the DNA material by an organization other than the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI).
The 27-year-old Heuvelman from Waddinxveen was seriously mistreated on July 14, shortly after 2 a.m., together with friends during a confrontation on the boulevard of the seaside resort of El Arenal. Heuvelman ended up unconscious on the street in front of café De Bierexpress, after which he was said to have been kicked several times. The victim died of his injuries on July 18.
