A full court on Parnassusweg today. The three suspects who, according to the Public Prosecution Service, are involved in the murder of crime reporter Peter R. de Vries are central: Gerower M., Erickson O., and Krystian M. It is striking that the lawyers of Erickson O. are asked to remand custody. he would not be responsible for the murder, according to his defense.

Lawsuit about the murder of Peter R. de Vries – NH Nieuws

On July 6, 2021, Peter R. de Vries was shot in broad daylight after a broadcast of RTL Boulevard. Today begins the second case against suspects, titled Hendon. The first pro-forma takes place, or interim hearing in which the Public Prosecution Service asks the court to extend the pre-trial detention. It is the start of a completely new lawsuit in which three other people involved and co-responsible for the murder of De Vries are central.

Iraklia or Hendon?

There are two lawsuits pending around the murder of the crime journalist. The first case involves Kamil E. and Delano G., the shooter and the driver of the getaway car immediately after the murder. At the end of August it was announced that the entire case, which has been going on for more than a year, may have to do it again.

Today it concerns three other suspects. The courtroom includes Krystian M., today completely unrecognizable with a mouth cap and hood on. He would have directed the executors of the murder (Kamil E. and Delano G.) on and in the run-up to the day in question. “The Public Prosecution Service suspects him that he was the driver, that he supplied a telephone, car and weapons to carry it out,” said a press officer of the Public Prosecution Service. “There are very clear directions given who should have them and in what way. They say things like this dog you have to have.”

the film crew

Next to the main suspects is the so-called ‘film crew’ in the room. This concerns Gerower M. and Erickson O. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the two would have made videos just after the murder and spread this image via social media.

The suspects would also have acted as a ‘spotter’. For example, they would have been in the McDonalds at the RTL-Boulevard studio for more than 45 minutes before De Vries came out. But that is not the case, according to O.’s lawyers. “Our client has walked that route, but that does not immediately say that he is an accomplice. He did not film himself, the other suspect did.” For that reason, his lawyers ask not to extend the pre-trial detention for him.

Terrorism

According to the Public Prosecution Service, all three suspects have terrorist intent. Because fear has been deliberately created in society, it is referred to as terrorism. “My client did not even know Peter R. de Vries, he had no idea who it was. How can you then practice terrorism?”, O.’s lawyer wonders.

“If you look closely at, for example, the screenshots of the camera images,” says the lawyer for the relatives of Annemiek van Spanje, “this was not a chance meeting and accidental filming on the street.”

The pre-trial detention of all three suspects has been extended, the next pro forma hearing will take place on January 6, 2023. In addition, the Public Prosecution Service hopes to be able to start the substantive handling of the case early next year.
