New suspect arrested for explosion in Emmen: 23-year-old Emmenaar

A 23-year-old man from Emmen was arrested today by the police on suspicion of involvement in causing an explosion at a restaurant last year.

A heavy explosion took place at restaurant Napoleon in the night of October last year. According to the police, it was caused by heavy fireworks. No injuries were reported as no one was in the building at the time. The damage to the building was “significant”, according to the police.

Earlier, the police already published camera images of the moment of the explosion. It shows how one walks onto the terrace of the restaurant with an explosive. It is also visible that the explosive is ignited. The police assume that the 23-year-old suspect who has now been arrested is not the man who can be seen on the CCTV images.

Earlier there were searches in two buildings in Emmen. Several goods were seized.

In October and November last year, several explosions took place in Emmen. The police have previously made four arrests for explosions at the Stienackers and Het Meerveld. In addition, a 43-year-old Emmenaar was arrested for an explosion on Halvemaanweg and arson at the same place.

Police are not ruling out multiple arrests. She is investigating whether there is a connection between the explosions in Emmen.
