Pretenders around Chrissie Hynde have announced a new album. Relentless is the group’s fourteenth studio album and will be released on September 1, 2023. A single release can already be heard in advance: “Let The Sun Come In”.
Speaking of the album’s title, 71-year-old Hynde says: “I like to see different meanings and origins of a word. I liked the definition: ‘with undiminished intensity’. This is the life of an artist. One never withdraws. You become relentless.”
“Relentless”: Here everything about the new album
Relentless is the second consecutive Pretenders album to be a collaboration between Chrissie Hynde and James Walbourne. Walbourne has worked with the likes of Dave Gahan, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Rails.
The work is produced by David Wrench and recorded at Battery Studios in west London. The 12 tracks represent what Chrissie calls “The Pretenders Collective”. This extended band includes James Walbourne (guitar), Kris Sonne (drums), Chris Hill (upright bass), Dave Page (bass) and Carwyn Ellis (keyboards and guitars).
LP 14 also features a collaboration with Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead, The Smile), who contributed the string arrangements and conducted the 12-piece ensemble for the closing song, “I Think About You Daily.”
