New song: Why and where Mavi Phoenix hit the snooze button

In November 2021, Mavi Phoenix announced his new record MARLON for February 25, 2022 – the title is a homage to his first name. In the spring he went on tour with it, presented by Musikexpress. Now Phoenix spontaneously released a new song that wasn’t and isn’t on MARLON. Listen to “Snooze” streamed here:

Mavi Phoenix herself says about the new song, which takes its title from the “snooze” button on the alarm clock or smartphone:

“Because ‘Snooze’ is so personal, it feels like I’m telling someone a secret. I always write about things that are really happening in my life that are bothering me, or at least about feelings I’m having. I’m very direct, I think. In this song I’m about rediscovering the feelings you have for another person and realizing that love was never gone. You basically just hit the snooze button and now you wake up again.”

Accordingly, in the new song, among other things, the repeating line: “I think I never stopped loving you.”

In April 2020, after a few EPs, the Austrian musician released his debut album BOYS TOYS. After that it became quieter around him – until he returned to the spotlight with an appearance in Jan Böhmermann’s “ZDF Magazin Royale”. It was noticeable that his voice was much deeper than it was a year ago. Mavi Phoenix on Instagram:

After releasing my debut album last year, I started taking testosterone and took a year off to focus on writing new music. I had no idea what was going to happen to my body or my voice. Sure, doctors can tell you what could be happening, but everyone’s body responds differently to synthetic hormones. But I knew that this path would save my life, I knew that I had to become myself, Marlon.

We have met Phoenix several times for interviews in recent years. ME author Daniel Koch chatted with the rapper in early 2020 about boys, their toys and being a man, ME author Sophie Boche two years later about the turmoil of dating, images of masculinity, Britpop and voice changes.
