At the beginning of July, the National Social Hygiene Committee (Lcsh) started keeping an up-to-date register of managers who serve alcohol in, for example, catering establishments, liquor stores and student associations. Everyone included in the existing register (approximately 600,000 people) is requested to confirm their details in the new register. This can be done through www.registersocialhygiene.nl.

To obtain an alcohol license, managers in catering and liquor stores must be included in the Social Hygiene Register. This condition also applies to, for example, district and community centers, student associations and canteens of sports associations where alcohol is served. A recognized diploma and a registration in the Social Hygiene Register can demonstrate that managers who serve alcohol have sufficient knowledge about social hygiene. This includes knowledge about the influence of the use of alcoholic beverages (possibly in combination with drugs) on people’s behaviour, the consequences of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, and laws and regulations relating to alcohol.

New registry

As of 1 July, the Social Hygiene Register and the related activities have been taken over by a new committee: the National Social Hygiene Committee. This decision stems from the Alcohol Act of 2021. It has been decided to amend the laws and regulations regarding this register in order to be able to carry out the activities properly. In addition, the register will have an independent and independent position, among other things to keep personal data in the register safe and up-to-date.

Confirmation registration free of charge

The transition to the new register is an organizational change that people who work in the hospitality industry or liquor stores will not notice. All persons included in the register of SVH LEC have been transferred to the new register. All recognized diplomas have also been taken over. However, everyone who is included in the existing register must confirm their details themselves in the new register. This is necessary from GDPR regulations, but also because people may have moved or may have a different last name, for example. Therefore, the Lcsh asks everyone for the existing registration via www.registersocialhygiene.nl to confirm and correct if necessary. This is possible from 1 July during the five-year period. This is free of charge.

Registered persons will not be approached personally by the Lcsh. Due to the lack of contact details, catering and liquor stores, district and community centers, student and sports associations are asked to approach their managers themselves with this question.
