At the MWC in Barcelona, some smartphone manufacturers presented their current devices again. TECHBOOK summarizes the smartphone innovations we can look forward to in the coming weeks.
While Samsung and Huawei are primarily focusing on new laptops at MWC 2022, Honor, Motorola and Poco are showing their latest smartphones. And some of them offer decent performance.
Motorola Edge 30 Pro for the upper class
Motorola is best known for its affordable mid-range smartphones. But with the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, the company presented a new top-of-the-line smartphone at MWC 2022. In addition to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the support of 5G and Wifi 6E, the 144 Hz OLED display and the cameras are particularly worth mentioning.
The display of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro measures 6.7 inches diagonally. Thanks to its refresh rate of 144 Hz, it displays movements and images particularly smoothly. Gamers in particular should benefit from this. The display can also be operated with a stylus. Motorola has introduced the Smart Stylus and a matching folio cover specifically for this, in which the pen can be stowed away. Both are optionally available. Two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos are also installed in the smartphone. The battery capacity of 4800 mAh is okay for such a large device. The battery can be charged extremely quickly with 68 watts (mains adapter included). According to Motorola, 15 minutes is enough for half a charge.
The camera system has also been upgraded – both at the front and at the rear. The front camera offers a high resolution of 60 megapixels, on the back there are two 50 megapixel sensors (wide angle + ultra wide angle) and a depth sensor with 2 megapixels. The manufacturer promises a high level of detail and performance in poor lighting conditions.
The Motorola Edge 30 Pro supports the “Ready For” function and can therefore mirror content to PCs with Windows 10 or 11. Equipped with the latest Android 12, 256 GB of storage and a whopping 12 GB of RAM, it will be available from the beginning of March for EUR 799.99. You can choose between the colors Cosmos Blue and Stardust White.

Magic 4 Pro by Honor
Honor’s Magic 4 Pro, which is protected against dust and water according to IP68, is also at the premium level. The huge 6.81-inch quad-curved display with LTPO technology comes with a refresh rate of 1 Hz to 120 Hz and very thin bezels. Like the Motorola smartphone, it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, Honor has “only” installed 8 GB of RAM instead of 12 GB, but it also uses 256 GB of storage.
The Honor Magic 4 Pro supports 5G and can be charged to 100 percent in just 30 minutes thanks to 100-watt SuperCharge technology. The battery has a capacity of 4600 mAh. The Honor Magic 4 Pro comes with Android 12 and Magic UI 6.0. Biometric 3D facial recognition and the latest fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm, the 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2, should provide more security. Compared to its predecessor, it promises speeds that are up to 40 percent faster.
Similar to Motorola’s Edge 30 Pro, the Magic 4 also has a triple camera with two 50-megapixel sensors on the back. The third camera, however, is a periscope telephoto camera with 64 megapixels, 3.5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.
The Honor Magic 4 Pro should come to Germany in the summer in cyan and black. Honor has not yet announced a price for the smartphone at the MWC 2022.

Poco comes to MWC 2022 with two smartphones
The Poco brand, which belongs to Xiaomi, presented two smartphones at the MWC 2022. Both belong to the (upper) middle class.
The Poco X4 Pro 5G is very well equipped. It has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ and up to 120 Hz, supports 5G and allows users to charge the 5000 mAh battery with up to 67 watts particularly quickly. The Snapdragon 695 takes care of the performance together with 6 or 8 GB RAM and 128 or 256 GB storage. The Poco X4 Pro 5G has a total of three cameras, with the 108-megapixel wide-angle leading the way. There is also an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 2 megapixel macro lens. The front camera takes pictures with 16 megapixels.
The Poco M4 Pro is a little less equipped, but still very solid. Not only is it a bit smaller at 6.43 inches, it also offers “only” 90 Hz and comes without 5G support. The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and supports fast charging with up to 33 watts. The smartphone is powered by the Mediatek Helio G96, which has the same memory equipment as the Poco X4 Pro 5G with 6/8 GB RAM and 128/256 GB memory. If you need more memory, you can upgrade with a microSD card. The Poco M4 Pro also has a triple camera. However, the manufacturer uses a 64-megapixel wide-angle in addition to the 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and the macro camera with 2 megapixels.
Both smartphones presented at MWC 2022 will be launched on March 2nd. The Poco X4 Pro 5G with 6 GB and 128 GB costs 299.90 euros, the version with 8 GB and 256 GB is available for 349.90 euros. The Poco M4 Pro costs 229.90 euros with 128 GB and 279.90 euros with 256 GB. Poco plans to reduce prices by up to 30 euros for early customers.
