The Smashing Pumpkins on Tuesday (September 20) released their new single ‘Beguiled’, a precursor to what Billy Corgan has dubbed a ‘rock opera in three acts’: ‘Atum’ (pronounced ‘autumn’). . Final release date: April 2023.
Atum will consist of 33 songs and will serve as the official follow-up to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God. The tracks will be released in stages: each eleven-song act will be released every eleven weeks on digital streaming platforms, as well as a new Corgan podcast series, “Thirty-Three with William Patrick Corgan” (Guest on Episode 1: Mike Garson). Act 1 will be released on November 15th, Act 2 on January 31st, 2023, Act 3 on April 21st, 2023 – along with a special edition box set containing all 33 album tracks and 10 additional unreleased songs. This week, Billy Corgan introduces the tracks “Atum” and “Butterfly Suite” on the podcast.
