Serge Gnabry has had a season to forget so far. In terms of sport, the German national player found it difficult to get going at FC Bayern, and injuries repeatedly slowed him down. On Saturday the 28-year-old seems to have been hit particularly hard in the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt.
It became clear on Sunday morning that the 2023 football year for Gnabry had ended prematurely. In Frankfurt, the substitute offensive man suffered a muscle tendon injury in the left adductor area. The club said he would be missing in the “coming games”.
Things could get much worse: According to “Sport1”, Gnabry is now expecting a downtime of two to three months.
Before the winter break, FC Bayern still has three games to play: After the final group game in the Champions League on Tuesday at Manchester United, they play in the Bundesliga next Sunday against VfB Stuttgart and three days later against VfL Wolfsburg.
The new year will continue on January 12th against TSG Hoffenheim.
FC Bayern: Serge Gnabry pursued by bad luck
Gnabry was recently considered a problem child in Munich. The attacker found the season difficult and hardly got a chance against his competitors Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané.
The Stuttgart native was out for several weeks in September and October due to a broken forearm suffered in the DFB Cup against Münster.
Gnabry has only been used in five Bundesliga matches; the right winger has not yet recorded a goal or an assist. In the previous season he contributed 14 goals and seven assists to the championship title.
Gnabry’s working paper on Säbener Straße is valid until 2026. It cannot be ruled out that the DFB star will be looking for a new adventure in the summer. A return to the Premier League should be his dream.
