The New Year’s classic “Dinner for One” is to be expanded by a series. The iconic sketch is about Miss Sophie, who is celebrating her 90th birthday. Her butler James has to pretend that her four friends are sitting at the table and toasting her.
Ufa Fiction is now planning a series that tells what happened to Miss Sophie’s friends. It is said to have six 45-minute episodes and be a “romantic comedy adventure series.”
The story takes place in the 1920s, just before Miss Sophie’s 39th birthday. She feels compelled to marry soon and Admiral von Schneider, Pommeroy, Sir Toby and Winterbottom are courting her. In order to delay the wedding, she sets the men a task: she will marry whoever brings her the best present for her 40th birthday.
The template is a play
Filming is scheduled to begin in 2023, and nothing is known about the cast. Tommy Wosch will produce and write the screenplay. The book “Dinner for One – Killer for Five” by Michael Koglin serves as a template. The thriller has already been staged as a play and performed in Germany and Switzerland. Koglin has also dedicated two other books to the skit – Dinner for One on the Titanic and Dinner for One with Al Capone.
