New series on L1 TV: I am Afghan

From Sunday 6 March on L1 TV.

Afghanistan literally means Land of the Afghans. But in the past 40 years, civil wars have made that no longer the case. Many Afghans were no longer safe in their own country. They fled to start a new life in another country. With the return to power of the Taliban last year, a new influx of refugees emerged. Reason for the regional broadcaster L1 to look for their predecessors.

In the docuseries I am Afghan L1 program makers Nira Kakerissa and Riël Linssen follow three men and their families. More than 20 years ago they were forced to leave their motherland to exchange it for the Limburg homeland.

Faisal Nikzad, taxi driver and technical employee of a medical technology company from Heerlen, Rahman Ansari, shopkeeper from Echt, and Noor Nezami from Maastricht, owner of a healthcare institution, tell their personal stories.

What have they been through and how do they feel now? Still Afghan, Dutch or maybe now a real Limburger?

This production (three episodes) was created in a collaboration between L1 and Omroep MAX. I am Afghan is also broadcast nationally.

In the series, the Afghans not only tell their story to the program makers. They also discuss how they view the past and the present, based on a number of statements. They share the same background, but that doesn’t mean they have the same vision.

broadcast times

I Am Afghan can be seen on L1 TV on Sundays 6, 13 and 20 March at 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. And on Mondays at 4:30 PM.
