New round of vaccinations: repeat shot for people over 12 from mid-September

Anyone aged 12 and older can receive a new vaccination against the coronavirus from this autumn, healthcare minister Ernst Kuipers writes in a letter to the House of Representatives. First it is healthcare employees with patient contact and people with an increased medical risk, then the rest is allowed. The first invitations will go out in mid-September.

The cabinet is taking into account a new corona wave in the autumn, and protection can be maintained with a repeat shot, Kuipers writes. The OMT previously advised starting a new round of vaccinations.

The Drenthe GGD is prepared for such a new round, the health service reported to RTV Drenthe earlier this month. Minister Kuipers had asked all GGDs to scale up. This means that the services can start recruiting, selecting and training staff.

The group that will be invited from mid-September consists of the same people who were also invited for a repeat shot earlier this year. This will be expanded with people under 60 who receive an annual invitation for the flu shot and some of the healthcare employees.

The cabinet wants the injections to be done with new vaccines, which have been updated and offer better protection than the current ones.
