New place for young people opens its doors: DNK-NXT in Assen

It must become ‘the place to be’ for youth from 0 to 18 years in Assen. De Nieuwe Kolk (DNK) has a new youth space where language, technology and culture come together. DNK-NXT is open from today.

Reading books in a tree house, playing games on an Xbox and an augmented reality scavenger hunt, mixing the physical world with a virtual one. There is plenty to do on several floors in the Asser library. “We are very happy that it is finished,” says Hanneke Bruggeman, director of DNK. “We hope that we can welcome many parents with children here. We can already see that children who come here do not want to go home.”

Upon entering there is a large area for the little ones. Visitors walk down an interactive floor, where there is a game corner in one corner and a lego wall and reading stand on the other. One floor up houses a large book collection, with a games corner and a walkway to a tree house where the little readers can chill. “There is something to do for children of all ages. Every age group has its own place,” explains Bruggeman.
