The N49, the expressway between Antwerp and the coast, dates from the 1970s. Cyclists, agricultural traffic, car traffic at 90 km/h and the various intersections lead to unsafe situations today. That is why the Flemish government has decided to convert the N49 into a motorway. In this way, local traffic is separated from through traffic.
