TOlla Rome Film Festival 2023 (October 19-23) will also be there the preview of New Olympus by Ferzan Ozpetek – his highly anticipated latest film written together with Gianni Romoli. At the center of the plot, a love story explored over the course of three decades between two boys played by Damiano Gavino and Andrea Di Luigi. New Olympus will come out coming soon on Netflix.

Set in Rome, the Turkish director’s film tells a very long love story that spans three decades. The protagonists are two young twenty-five year olds who, at the end of the Seventies, meet by chance and fall madly in love. To then get lost, look for each other and find each other again for the next thirty years. To embody the main characters, two future stars (we bet) of Italian cinema: Damiano Gavino and Andrea Di Luigi.
The first is a Roman actor, born in 2001, who has already made himself noticed in the series A professor with Alessandro Gassmann and Claudia Pandolfi. Where he played Manuel, one of the main protagonists among the group of students taught by Dante Balestra, the character played by Gassmann. Andrea, on the other hand, is less well-known than his co-star, having only acted in a few short films.

As for the rest of the cast, we will find Luisa Ranieri, Aurora Giovinazzo, Greta Scarano, Alvise Rigo, Giancarlo Commare and Jasmine Trinca. On the musical side however, the soundtrack will host Poor love of Mina. Song featured in the singer’s new album I love you like crazy. A participation that renews the partnership between the director and the Tiger of Cremona, already present with his songs in The goddess of luck And The ignorant fairies – The series.
Ferzan Ozpetek’s statements
In addition to announcing the Roman preview of New Olympus, the Turkish director wanted to tell something more about his latest film effort. Which comes four years after the excellent response obtained with The goddess of luck. «The starting point of the film is a true story that happened to me in the seventies and which I had wanted to use as a starting point to make a film for a long time” said Ozpetek.
To then continue by saying «Starting to work on it though, this time I immediately realized that little by little the story was expanding anyway, detaching itself from its very personal initial node and spreading towards other dynamics and other topics that no longer concerned only me. Because she didn’t just talk about a love between two through time but also the love of cinema, as a memory of desire and passion. The autobiographical boundaries have thus faded and the story has no longer been just mine, but I believe also that of many others.”

In addition to the two young protagonists, the following are present in the film: Luisa Ranieri, Aurora Giovinazzo, Greta Scarano, Alvise Rigo, Giancarlo Commare and Jasmine Trinca. Mina appears in the soundtrack with the song Poor lovetaken from the album I love you like crazy: third collaboration between director and singer after The goddess of luck And The ignorant fairies – The series.
