New night shelter for homeless people opens doors in Roeselare
The current night shelter ‘De Noorderbrug’ in Noordlaan was in need of a thorough renovation. The building no longer meets today’s standards and offers insufficient capacity to meet the ever-increasing demand for night shelters due to homelessness. That is why the City and OCMW Roeselare looked for a new infrastructure.
The night shelter offers shelter at night to homeless people who are looking for a temporary place to sleep. This is to avoid having to spend the night on the street. The new building complies with current standards and provides for an increase in the number of sleeping places to 21.
In the night shelter, services are offered under the motto of ‘bed – bath – bread’: a bed is made available, a sandwich meal is offered and people can wash themselves. A safe place is provided where the homeless person can rest. During the day, the users of the night shelter are supported in their contacts with regular assistance; to get out of the homelessness situation as quickly as possible.
