New NFTs in watch design: Casio is launching NFTs from its G-SHOCK cult brand

Many investors are likely familiar with Casio’s G-SHOCK men’s watches, as the shock-resistant, robust watches have long been considered classics, especially for watch beginners. The Japanese electronics company is now bringing two G-SHOCK NFT models onto the market.

• Casio releases two G-SHOCK NFTs
• Casio wants to appeal to younger target groups with the NFT project
• Free Creator Pass holders will receive priority in sales

For over 30 years, Casio’s G-SHOCKs have impressed many watch wearers with their amazing stability. The digital wristwatch has now become an icon. The Japanese watch manufacturer even advertises its G-SHOCK models on its own website as the “toughest watch in the world”. Now Casio is taking another step into the NFT (Non-Fungible Token) market and is launching two different digital images with G-SHOCK watch designs.

This is what the G-SHOCK NFTs look like – and this is how much they cost

On November 28th, the Casio Group, which not only produces wristwatches but also calculators and digital cameras, announced that it would release a limited series of 2,000 pieces of VIRTUAL G-SHOCK NFTs for sale on December 15th. The NFTs show two different motifs from the G-SHOCK brand in a virtual environment. Distribution of the G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS, which grants owners exclusive purchasing privileges, also began on November 28th in advance of the sale.

Specifically, there are two different design variants: The VGA-001 (1,000 pieces) presents a balloon motif in which a colorful G-SHOCK floats freely surrounded by balloons. In contrast, the VGA-002 (1,000 pieces) features a leaf spring motif depicting a futuristic G-SHOCK. The digital watch uses a structure inspired by springs to effectively absorb shock. Both models therefore bring the robustness of the iconic watch models – the trademark of the G-SHOCKs – to the fore.

According to the website, the price of an NFT is 0.1 Ether. The NFTs are offered in 16 countries: In addition to the European countries of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain, Portugal and Austria, purchasing will also be possible in the USA and some Asian countries (including Japan, Indonesia and Singapore).

NFTs are part of the “VIRTUAL G-SHOCK” project

The two G-SHOCK NFT motifs are part of the broader “VIRTUAL G-SHOCK” project that Casio started a good two months ago. The Web3 project is intended to serve as a point of contact with Generation Z and other new users. This is intended to increase the attractiveness of the Japanese brand for young people. Senior General Manager of Timepieces at Casio, Takahashi Oh, cites the G-SHOCK anniversary as an opportunity for dynamic further development of the brand: “The goal is for companies and users to work together to further develop the G-SHOCK brand, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year -year anniversary,” “BeInCrypto” quotes the Casio manager.

Casio is collaborating on the Web3 project with Ethereum scaling developer Polygon Labs. According to “PR Newswire”, free G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS NFTs were initially distributed, allowing holders to participate in the community on the communication platform Discord. Despite the continued weakness of the NFT market, demand was considerable: the first issue of 15,000 NFTs was distributed without exception within just six hours. Creator Pass holders will receive preferential treatment for the NFT series during pre-sales – the “first come, first served” principle applies, as Casio emphasizes on its homepage.
