Velez Sarsfield loses
There is a clear winner in the market value update of the Argentine professional league: Lucas Beltrán (22). The River Plate center forward has doubled his rating to become the second most valuable player in Argentina’s top flight at €12m. At the top remains Mateo Retegui (24) from Club Atlético Tigre, who remains unchanged at €16m.
“River Plate has experienced strikers in Miguel Borja (30; -€0.5m to €4.5m) and Salomón Rondón (33; -0.5m to €1.5m), but Beltrán earned his place in the starting eleven with dedication and commitment to the team,” explains Scott Christensen, Area Manager Argentina & South America. “Coach Martín Demichelis rightly put his trust in him, which Beltrán repaid with goals and was top scorer in 2022/23.” The attacker is the only Argentine in the league with a double-digit million market value and thus the only representative of the league among those currently 40 Most Valuable Argentine Professionals.
Overall, River Plate has three of the top five players, as Beltrán and Esequiel Barco (24; +2.5m to €8.5m) are joined by perhaps Argentina’s most promising player, Claudio Echeverri. The 17-year-old attacking midfield talent caused a sensation at the U17 South American Championship and now receives his starting value of €4 million after his first steps in the Liga Profesional de Fútbol.
Other winners include CA Rosario Central’s Alejo Véliz (19; +3m to €7m), Argentinos Juniors’ Federico Redondo (20; +3m to €4m), CA Newell’s Old Boys’ Brian Aguirre (20; +2m to €4m) and CA Boca Juniors’ Valentín Barco (18; +2m to €3.5m), who represented Argentina at the U20 World Cup. All have managed to establish themselves in the premier league and are becoming increasingly indispensable in their clubs’ starting line-ups.
from Ascacíbar to Retegui: Most valuable players in Argentina
Vélez Sarsfield loses the most in squad value – Bou biggest loser
Meanwhile, the biggest loser is Vélez Sarsfield’s Walter Bou (29; -1.3m to €2.5m), but also his teammates Lucas Janson (28; -1m to €4m), Lautaro Giannetti (29 ; -0.8m to €3m) and Santiago Cáseres (26; -0.5m to €2m) with their respective minuses contribute to the fact that the club with €5.28m so lost a lot of squad value like no other club. Ex-Hertha player Santiago Ascacíbar (26), now in the service of Estudiantes, also received a million devaluation, whose market value fell from 6.5 million to 5.5 million euros.
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
