New load of works for Ostend art trail ‘The Crystal Ship’

The arts festival The Crystal Ship takes place annually in Ostend. International and national artists create art installations and murals there. The new works are always added to the works of art from previous editions and thus form a large tour through the city. More than twenty new murals were created this edition, including three new works by British artist Mobstr. The Brussels artist Jaune also worked on ten walls spread across the city.

INSPIRATION: THE HISTORY OF THE CITY

This year, some artists were inspired by the history of the city. The French artist Julien de Casabianca found the image for his work in the archives of Mu.ZEE. And the American artist Pat Perry refers to beach tourism, and also gives Ensor and Spilliaert a place in his work. “These works of art ensure that art is made accessible to everyone. There are now almost two hundred works in the city,” says mayor Bart Tommelein (Open VLD).

BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS

The bad weather of the past few days caused difficulties during the construction of the works. “The artists had to finish their artwork in the rain, but after some touch-ups, the result is definitely there.” Temporary plans are currently already available at Tourism Ostend vzw. It contains an overview of all artists of this edition. Visitors can also follow the new routes via the Street Art Ostend app. Final plans will be available from the beginning of May.
