The central bridge over the R8 is now almost finished. The works are on schedule and it is expected that the connection will open in the autumn of next year.

Today, visitors can visit the wharf for the first time, which attracts a lot of attention from the neighbourhood. They see an absolute feat. The beams were installed last week. But the stability in this place is a challenge: “We work with drones to take on such a project, not only for the stability for measurements, but also for less nuisance and traffic flow. And this project – that is not unimportant – is a sustainable project, which means that we are looking to limit emissions as much as possible,” says Dominique Valcke of contractor Stadsbader.

Little hindrance

The large project causes remarkably little nuisance, as the local residents also notice: “I think it’s not too bad, to be honest. It’s well organized. Because the lights are gone, there is a fairly smooth flow of traffic. I certainly can’t complain. “

Everything is on schedule and the works should be completed by autumn next year. Then there will be a solution for the dangerous traffic situation that has dragged on here for 25 years.
