Emmen unpacked in recent days, because King’s Night and Day had to be bigger than ever before. With two large parties on the Raadhuisplein and more than 300 stalls on the flea market, this setup is worth repeating, according to center manager Laurens Meijer: “We have taken a nice step with this.”
Meijer noticed that there was a need for a bigger King’s Day and Night in Emmen. “Sociability is being sought, especially by the young people in Emmen. They need it after the period we have had before, of course. Then it is nice that you can celebrate such a party in the city again in this way. “
During King’s Night, many young people could be found on the Raadhuisplein. “We used to have activities at the cafes and entertainment venues, but now a large stage had also been built. That had a very nice atmosphere and was a nice preview, despite the fact that it was of course so cold.”
A day later, on King’s Day, the crowds in Emmen did not get any less. “We have had more than 300 market stalls, normally there are about 200. And in addition all the rugs. There was not a square centimeter left to sell stuff,” says Meijer.
The sunny weather yesterday also played into the hands of the festivities in Emmen. “We had not seen that coming at first, so that the sun was shining was really a gift. It was pleasantly busy, the terraces were full.” According to Meijer, tens of thousands of people visited the center of Emmen throughout the day.
After the successful festivities on King’s Night, there was another party on the Raadhuisplein last night. “Actually, that was almost a repeat on King’s Night. It was full again, cozy, a nice atmosphere and actually no riots or hassle.”
According to Meijer, the new set-up around King’s Day is therefore worth repeating. “Perhaps we can expand it and make it a step bigger. But I think we have taken a nice step with this in the first place, with a beautiful King’s Night and King’s Day in Emmen.”
