Iranian media have reported on a possible engagement of former Bundesliga coach Alexander Nouri in Tehran.
The 42-year-old, who has an Iranian father and a German mother, is being discussed as a coach for the Iranian first division champions Esteghlal, the Fars news agency reported. An insider confirmed plans to the “German Press Agency” in Tehran. So far, there has been no official confirmation from the club.
Nouri commented on the Internet with a message in Persian and English: “I am overwhelmed by the love and positive energy you are showing me,” he wrote on Instagram. “I am sure that my dream of one day writing a successful story in my father’s country will come true.” The 42-year-old did not give a clear rejection or commitment.
Nouri was the head coach at Greek club AO Kavala and in the Bundesliga at Werder Bremen and Hertha BSC. Esteghlal wanted to hire Nouri as a coach two years ago, but the Buxtehuder rejected the offer at the time.
