Kajsa Bergqvist tells what happened during the men’s discus throw final. In the end, he didn’t file a protest, even though he planned to.
On Wednesday morning, Finnish time, Iltalehti reported that Sweden left the protest Daniel Ståhl for the third performance in the discus WC final.
The information about the protest was based on information from the Swedish media and a message received from the race organizers, which stated: “The Swedish team management has been consulted, the final results did not change. The solution was clear”.
Now the leader of the Swedish team Kajsa Bergqvist tells what the humpa’s plot was.
– I was making a protest when I went to the judges’ council room. I hoped the judges had made a mistake, because it would have been a medal throw, says Bergvist.
He says he passed on the information about his planned protest to Swedish journalists during the puck competition.
– I went to the judges’ council room, saw the pictures of Daniel’s leg movements in the ring from all available cameras and talked to the head judge. After that I decided not to protest, says Bergqvist.
– It was a really difficult moment when I saw the pictures in the judges’ council room. The crossing of the ring was really scarce, but it was clear that it had been overstepped, he continues.
Ståhl’s third performance in the discus WC final was 69.19. It would have been enough for bronze, but the performance was justifiably judged as overstepping.
– I immediately felt that it was a bit overstepped. And then I also saw it on TV, Ståhl said after the race.
Bronze went to Lithuania Andrius Gudzius (67.55). Ståhl was fourth with a result of 67.10.
Slovene Kristjan Ceh set a new World Championship record of 71.13. It brought the man gold. Lithuania’s junior sensation Mykolas Alekna took silver (69.27).
