…better and better!
Transfermarkt’s database has gained another milestone. The 2010/2011 season of the UAE Pro League is now available in full. Al-Jazira Abu Dhabi became champions for the first time in the club’s history, having a comfortable twelve point lead over FC Baniyas. Ittihad Kalba and Al-Dhafra FC were relegated.
Baniyas’ André Senghor was crowned top scorer with 18 goals. Also leaving their mark at the time was ex-Ecuador international Carlos Tenorio, who scored five goals in ten games for Al-Nasr SC (UAE) before moving to Brazil in the winter to join Vasco da Gama. José Sand, a former Argentina international, contributed seven goals in ten appearances for Al-Ain FC. In addition, former Wolfsburg professional Fernando Baiano scored nine goals in 14 games for Al-Wahda FC Abu Dhabi and Matías Delgado, who joined Al-Jazira from Besiktas Istanbul on a free transfer in 2010, scored six goals in 20 games.
In 2010, Fabio Cannavaro, 2006 world champion, and ex-Mainz player Aristide Bancé were under contract with Al-Ahli Dubai Club. Cannavaro moved from Juventus on a free transfer and appeared in 16 games. Bancé, for whom FSV received 5 million euros, was on the top scorer list twice before leaving Dubai on loan to Umm Salal SC in Qatar in the winter.
Khalid Eisa, now the Emirates national goalkeeper, made his league debut, and former international Abdelaziz Sanqour also played for Sharjah for the first time. Ali Mabkhout, now Al-Jazira’s star player, scored two goals that season. The center forward now has 223 goals in 332 games.
