New in the database: Swiss League Cup with record player Risi

…better and better!

Transfermarkt’s database has grown to include further competition. All information about the Swiss League Cup can now be accessed. This relatively short-lived competition was held from 1972 to 1982 and was characterized primarily by a lack of audience interest and a constantly changing format.

The teams from the National League A and B were eligible to participate. While the first two editions were held as a kind of “summer tournament”, the later events stretched over the entire season. Servette Geneva won the most titles with three. The Grasshopper Club Zurich was able to achieve two victories and FC Aarau, FC Basel, FC St. Gallen, BSC Young Boys and FC Zurich each recorded a triumph.

Top scorer in the competition Peter Risi, who scored a total of 18 goals for FC Luzern and FC Zurich. Second place goes Franco Cucinotta with 17 goals Jean Michael Elsig with 16 hits. Risi is also at the top in terms of the most missions with 30.

In the summer of 1982 it was decided to stop the League Cup and that’s how it stays René Rietmann With his goal in the first leg of the final in 1982, he became the last goalscorer in the history of the competition.
