Master Halle, cup winner Dresden
The 1951/52 season of the GDR Oberliga is now available in the Transfermarkt database – a special season. It was the season with the most clubs in the upper house at that time, because in the previous year, for reasons of sports policy, the bottom unit in the table, Pankow, and the second Berlin relegated Oberschoeneweide (today Union Berlin) were kept in the league. Wismut Aue (today FC Erzgebirge) and Motor Wismar took over the places from Lichtenberg and Weimar, while a newly founded club, Forward Leipzig, was integrated. Turbine Halle (today HFC) was champion, cup winner was runner-up SV Deutsche Volkspolizei Dresden (today SG Dynamo).
A special feature was the fact that with Dr. Rudolf Krause (Chemie Leipzig), a pedagogue with a doctorate, became the top scorer, also the fundamentally enormous number of goals. Eight players scored more than 20 goals, even two of the four relegated teams each had two players with more than ten goals. Progress Meerane (rank 16) knew in Wolfram Starke a top striker with 23 goals in his ranks. In total there were seven clubs where three or more players scored at least ten goals.
