The police shows images of three new suspects in the case around the kidnap of a 15-year-old boy in De Pijp in Amsterdam. The three would have been monitoring the area around the time of the kidnapping and were captured by various cameras.
It is the first time that images have been made public around the kidnapping of a 15-year-old boy in De Pijp. On January 10 this year, the victim was dragged into a white van on Tweede Jan Steenstraat. An eyewitness calls the police, whereupon the pursuit is started.
Footage from a police helicopter
The images show how the bus is intercepted on the A27 near Groenekan. Around 09:30 the police helicopter films how the bus has been pulled over. Everyone is on edge and warning shots are fired. The victim is freed and three suspects are arrested. It concerns a 35-year-old Amsterdammer, a 36-year-old Weesper and a 29-year-old Almouder.
‘Kidnapping as a result of conflict’
“It seems that not just a random victim was picked from the street. The most likely scenario is that a conflict has escalated to such an extent that it was reason enough for a number of people to kidnap the boy,” says Marijke Stor, spokesperson for the police.
Research shows that even more people may have been involved in the kidnapping of the boy: “On camera images around the Tweede Jan Steenstraat where the boy was dragged onto the bus, we saw three people prior to the kidnapping. We think they were in the area kept an eye on and can be linked to the three kidnappers, two unknown men and a woman,” the police said.
The kidnapping takes care of unrest in De Pijp: “When I came out of the park with my dog this morning, I saw police cars everywhere in the street. I didn’t really know what was going on, but I suddenly heard that a child had been kidnapped,” a local resident told AT5. “It gives me a scary feeling that this can happen during the day, I find that very bizarre. You never actually hear about things like this. Fortunately, he has been liberated.”
The police are asking people with information about the three new suspects to come forward.
